WHAT THE PAPERS SAY
Massage
after the Birth
In
the initial period after you give birth, nature sets about undoing in
eight weeks what it took nine months to create. As a specialist in
Postnatal work I can focus on repositioning the pelvis, relieving pain
and restoring function to muscles of the lower back as well as
strengthening muscle tone in the abdomin. Upper back muscles,
which now support larger breasts and the carried infant's weight, need
work to reduce strain.
Massage
can help you handle the physical demands of caring for a
newborn. If you are breast-feeding, a relaxing massage can help since
tension interferes with milk letdown. Emotionally, massage can nurture
and comfort you whether or not you are experiencing the "baby blues".
The more relaxed and at ease you feel, the more contented your baby is
likely to be.
When
to schedule your first postpartum massage will depend on how your
delivery went and what your Midwife / Doctor and massage
therapist feel is best for you.
